Derveni holiday highlights for visitors to Derveni
The town got its name due to the narrowness of the location between mountain and sea, as a direct loan from the Turkish word derven which means narrow passage. Derveni was settled in 1840 after the Greek War of Independence by families who migrated from the plateaus of Evrostini or Zacholi.
Derveni is famous for its beaches with the crystal-clear waters of the Corinthian Gulf and its wonderful sunset. However, the area combines sea and mountain, as it is surrounded by hills with vegetation and crops. Undoubtedly, this combination of landscapes is worth exploring.
Most of the houses in Derveni are arranged on either side of the Old National Road of Corinth – Patras. The residences mostly consist of two floors with stone, wood and tile prevailing in the area’s traditional architecture.
It is highly recommended to wander around the village and of course, to enjoy coffee or food by visiting the seaside bars and restaurants of the area.
